Making the Most...

Outdoor weddings are beautiful and using the right tent can make all the difference. A tent can be seen from a distance, causing curiosity and welcoming visitors. As important as the tent is for your event, the story being told underneath the tent is most endearing. For your next event, make sure you read this Do and Don't list to make sure you have everything set in place.

DO:
*Cover any metal on the tent. If possible, use an inner tent liner. This makes it look more crisp and clean.
*Set the tent legs at the greatest possible height.
*Use vertical space wisely be adding chandeliers or other hanging decor (we have a NEW, gorgeous chandelier for rent- just ask about details)!
*Tell your story with vibrant colors and make it look like YOU. This will set the mood.

DON'T:
*Try to be everything for everyone. Decorate according to your own taste and don't worry about others. Suggestions are welcome, but remember that you can't please everyone. Over the top decor trying to enfuse all different styles can look messy.
*Use sidewall.
*Create physical barriers to prevent easy access.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions for your rental needs. Remember, no matter what it's for, let us ACE your next event!

My 7 Cookie Baking Secrets...

Next time you're in the mood to host an event, give us a call for any of your rental needs. We can take care of your tables, tents, chairs, linens, china, glassware, flatware, etc. Not only will we provide those items; but if you ask, we may have a few other tips in store...

For instance, follow these simple rules for baking the best cookies every time. I promise it works and it is amazing how accurate this information is.

1. SPLIT THE DOUGH: Only work with half the dough at one time. Handling the dough too much can cause the cookies to be hard.

2. CHOOSE BAKING SHEETS WISELY: Bake cookies on shiny, heavy aluminum baking sheets. Dark sheets tend to absorb heat, burning them.

3. KNOW HOW TO GREASE: Grease the baking sheet with cooking spray, not margarine.

4. PURCHASE PARCHMENT PAPER: You can avoid greasing the sheet all together.

5. DON'T OVERLOAD THE OVEN: Place ONE baking sheet on the middle rack.

6. USED COOLED BAKING SHEETS: Let baking sheets cool between batches.

7. COOL BEFORE STORING: Let cookies cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

This should help make better cookies each time you bake! I've got plenty more useful party tips, so stay tuned...

Event Planning Tips

Happy Thursday!

I figured some of you out there could use a few planning tips so I came up with a short check list to go through once you start planning.

Depending on the size of your event, you may need to first choose members for a committee. Secondly, develop a plan and/or goals and stick to a timeline. If you can't set a specific date quite yet, shoot for deadlines and make sure they are known publicly for all members associated. Once you've chosen an official date for your event, plan on a "day of event" meeting to discuss any last minute items that need to be taken care of. Discuss specific duties, as well as answer any questions at this time. On the day of your event, make sure everyone knows where they are supposed to be and pass out a schedule/itinerary so that things can be executed in a timely fashion. Once the event is over, make sure to thank everyone that participated and send out any follow surveys (if necessary).

In the meantime, if you would like a professional to help you with any part of your planning process, give us a call. That's what we're here for, afterall. Not only can we take care of your tables, chairs, tents, linens, china, etc., but we also take on the role of event planners from time to time! We would be more than happy to assist you!

Let us ACE your next event...

An Elegant Wedding Touch- Quilled Table Numbers

If you're trying to find ways to save money on your wedding, making your own decor is a good place to start! Create your own table setting numbers while adding a little art into your life. Quilled Table Numbers are so gorgeous and so simple. Here are the easy steps:

For each digit, curl one end of a 1/4 inch wide strip of quilling paper by wrapping it around quill tool or the end of a screwdriver (whatever you have handy!)

Then, using template, form the numbers. Start with the curled end and bend paper for curves and creases. Trim paper, leaving a few extra inches and then curl that end. Apply white craft glue to edge of number with toothpick and attach the card. Using tweezers; hold in place to secure.

**Optional: To create a stand, cut a triangle out of card stock and glue edge to card's back.

Super cute and super easy! You're welcome :)

Holiday Fan Napkin Fold

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Only a month left until Christmas!!! YAY!

I've been searching far and wide for unique- but easy- napkin folds for our new tablescapes in our showroom. I came up with one that I thought was elegant and classy, yet simple enough for me to do by myself. Here are the quick and easy steps:

1. Lay the napkin face-down in front of you.

2. Fold the napkin in half and re-open it, leaving a crease in the center.

3. Accordion-fold the napkin up the crease, ensuring that the final fold rests nicely on the crease. This will help keep the fan folds uniform.

4. Finish accordion-folding the napkin, then fold in half.

5. Insert the folded napkin into a napkin ring, or tie it will ribbon as I did. Then I added a dyed piece of branch and placed it on top for a nice wintery look!

Holiday Table Decoration Tips

Before you begin decorating your tables for the holidays, you should measure the tables in order to get the accurate sizes for the linens. Not only measure the length, but measure the width as well, especially if you're planning to use a table runner. There are different sizes that will fall at different lengths on the table. Some go half way down and others will touch the floor. Another helpful hint- don't forget to measure the leaf if you're planning on adding additional guests.

Holidays can be expensive enough as it is! Make sure to check for things you may already have or things that you can get creative with. If you're planning on having an adult-only feast then you can count on little or no casualties, so you can splurge and go with the more expensive linens. If there will be kids at the table, you should consider using disposable linens or ones that won't break the bank trying to clean. Save yourself the hassle of using the expensive china as well!

Making simple yet elegant centerpieces is a fun and easy way to save money during the holidays. Searching online for ideas can help get your creative juices flowing. All you need to do is figure out what color scheme you want to use and everything will fall into place. Give us a call for any table, chairs, or linen needs! Let us ACE your next event.

Thanksgiving Quotes

While you're chatting with family over the Holidays and sharing stories of thanks, I thought you might take a moment to really listen to what others are thankful for. Most people are thankful that time seems to almost stop so that everyone could get together and stuff themselves with a wonderful meal. Others are thankful for the beautiful tables and linens that Ace Party Rental have provided for them (hehe). That's why I've decided to take a moment and list a few quotes about Thanksgiving that I really like.

Each year I am thankful for something new that I was not aware of the year before. Whether it be a physical item, or an emotion, or a new friend, there is always something that I am grateful for. I wish I took more time to really "give thanks" to those I love. Therefore I have vowed to do so this Thanksgiving. After reading and rereading a few of the quotes I'm about to list below, I realized that I'm blessed in more ways than meets the eye. I hope this makes you feel good too and you have something to be grateful for!

"We give thanks to unknown blessings already on their way" - unknown

"Thanksgiving, man. Not a good day to be my pants" -Kevin James

"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it" -William Arthur Ward

"If you're not thankful for what you've already got; it's highly unlikely you'll be thankful for what you're going to get" -unknown

"He who does not thank for little will not thank for much" - unknown proverb

Graduation Parties

Next spring I will be attending a few different graduation parties- ranging from high school to graduate school and I'm already looking forward to planning a few of them for my friends. One of my friends will be graduating from nursing school and my cousin will be graduating from Carmel high school. Both will more than likely require a little pre-planning thought. Little do they know, I've already been 'googling' ideas and tablescapes.
I came across a few ideas that I really liked
and wanted to share with you all.

By the time graduation rolls around, most high schoolers will know where they're planning on going to college. Embrace their decision and plan the party theme around that of that school. You can make your own banners by cutting out block letters and hanging the sign with the school name on display. Coordinating the school colors with the theme of the party, as well as hanging neat photos of campus, will allow the guests to become familiarized with that particular school (especially if it's out of state).

Since most graduations are held during the Spring, outdoor graduation parties are very popular and super easy to plan. Ace Party Rental has all your outdoor needs such as tents, tables, chairs, linens, frozen drink machines, etc. The list goes on! Having an intimate BBQ style buffet is a yummy way to feed your guests while retaining the casual atmosphere. There's nothing better than catching up with friends and watching someone embark on a new chapter in their life. Let us help plan your party and we'll take care of everything!

Turkey Day for Vegetarians

I'm kinda, sorta, a little bit of a vegetarian (although I enjoy a good steak every once in a blue moon). Therefore, I'm always looking for new recipes around the holidays since my family serves turkey and ham for dinner. I don't ever eat either of those, but fortunately enough, my family makes some killer side dishes.

Anyway, I came across a scrumptious looking meatless lasagna that would be perfect for Thanksgiving and felt like I couldn't keep this secret to myself. If you like Butternut Squash then you're in luck!

Ingredients: (serves 8)

3 1/2 lb butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch pieces

2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

coarse salt and freshly ground pepper

1 lb whole milk ricotta cheese

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 large egg yolks

1/2 lb fresh mozzarella cheese, coarsely grated

freshly grated nutmeg

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1/3 cup loosely packed fresh sage leaves, coarsely chopped

1 1/4 cup homemade (or store bought) low-sodium chicken stock

fresh lasagna noodles (you'll only need 1/2 the batch) cut into 4-by-13 inch strips and cooked, or store bought dried noodles, cooked

1 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 425. Toss squash, oil, and 1 tsp salt on a baking sheet. Season with pepper. Bake until light gold and tender, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool.

2. Reduce oven to 375. Combine ricotta, cream, yolks, mozzarella and a pinch of nutmeg in a medium bowl. Season with salt.

3. Melt butter in a small saute pan over medium-high heat. As soon as it starts to sizzle, add sage, and cook until light gold and slightly crisp at edges, 3 to 4 minutes.

4. Place squash in a medium bowl, and mash 1/2 of it with the back of a wooden spoon, leaving the other 1/2 in whole pieces. Gently stir in sage-butter mixture and stock. Season with salt and pepper.

5. Spread 3/4 cup of ricotta mixture in a 9-cup baking dish. Top with a layer of noodles. Spread 1/2 the butternut squash mixture over noodles. Top with a layer of noodles. Spread 1 cup of ricotta mixture over noodles. Repeat layering once more (noodles, squash, noodles, ricotta). Sprinkle parmesan over ricotta mixture.

6. Place baking dish on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake until cheese is golden and bubbling, 30 to 35 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

I hope you enjoy this yummy vegetarian dish. Because it's lasagna, it doesn't have to just be prepared during the holidays! It's simple to make and tastes like gold!

*Add a cute centerpiece and your family will think you've paid someone to do all the hard work. An informal arrangement of kumquats, squashes, pumpkins, and any other orange vegetables or fruits you can find, prepared in a small compote, will look nicely put together.

Baby Shower Tree Decorations

I came across this really cute tree decoration for a baby shower and felt like I just had to share it with everyone. All it consists of is a tree branch with several baby themed decorations on each branch. It's fairly simple to make and only requires your creativity to get it done!

Here's how to do it: find a tree branch and paint it whatever color you'd like. Make sure to do it well in advance so it's dry when you start putting things on it. Next thing you want to do is secure it to a table. Use moss or grass to hide however you secure it and place a baby blanket around the perimeter if needed. After that, start placing whatever items you feel fit your theme. Some ideas are gifts, photos, ultrasounds, pacifiers, etc.

What you'll need to get started: a tree branch, paint (spray paint works well), something to secure the branch to the table, clothes pins, baby trinkets, baby booties, baby photos, etc.

Bright Colors FALL into a New Season

Most people associate bright colors with Summer and warmer weather. What you may not know is that these popular bright colors are quickly turning into the newest Fall trends. Expect to see lots of bright colors, just slightly toned down for the (much) cooler weather.
What's great about bright colors is that they're extremely versatile and can be used in different ways to create a different, yet similar ambiance. It comes down to each individual and how bold you're willing to be. If you want to be bold and go with lots of bright colors, the best rooms for that are kitchens and bedrooms.
If you aren't ready to make such an impact or domestic commitment, you can simply accent those rooms with these bright colors. Purples and reds are my favorite colors, especially since they're bold enough to make a statement, yet tend to go well with your more traditional colors.

Bridesmaid Hairstyle Trends

Oh my gosh Becky, look at her hair! It is like so big and awful...

You never want to hear those words come out of someone's mouth when they're talking about your hair. One of the most important decisions to make about your wedding day, besides the dress of course, is your hairstyle... and your bridesmaids' hairstyles. Usually the biggest decision to make concerning your bridesmaids is whether they will have updos or if they will wear their hair down. Although most people think updos are fitting for a formal wedding, that hairstyle doesn't fit everyone's face and isn't always the right way to go. I suggest doing a trial run to see what you like and dislike. Don't freak out if your trial run doesn't result in a decision right off the bat. You may even end going in the opposite direction. Look through magazines to get ideas of what you like so you can add a little twist to it. No matter what you go with, you'll have lots of options to choose from!

Elegant Fall Table Decor

As you can see, there are many different styles to choose from when it comes to table centerpieces and decor. Whether you're feeling Fall-ish, or leaning more towards the Holidays, most candle centerpieces are universal. Sticking with reds, oranges, and golds will enhance the Fall colors and still leave you with a remarkable Holiday ambiance. An unexpected color like copper addes a stunning element when paired with the more traditional golds and greens. Votives or bowls of fruit can be placed on top of a table runner, giving it a layered effect. Keep in mind, candles always establish a warm and inviting atmosphere so you can't go wrong! Embellishing your accent colors with leaves or acorns is a warm added touch as well. Clean lines, vibrant hues, and subtle details combine for a casual yet chic appearance- perfect for a simple look. Play with different colors to find ones that bring out your individual personality!

Halloween Bat Decorations

It's always fun to make your own Halloween decorations; it's just hard to figure out what to make. Making bats out of egg cartons is a simple and fun decoration to make. There is practically no cost, depending on how fancy you want to make them. Here are the easy steps:

Take an egg carton and cut into sections so that each piece has three egg holders to make one bat. Then, the two sides on the egg holders are supposed to be the wings, so you'll need to cut a half circle on the front and back of each sides. Make a hole in the middle egg holder so you can hang it up later. The next step is to paint the egg holders black. Once the paint has fully dried, glue on eyes (or glue on white paper with black dots for eyes). That's as simple as it can get. If you want to get creative, you can add fangs or decorate the wings with glitter, etc. You can hang them up inside or outside!

Outdoor Wedding Dress

Whatever your style, outdoor weddings can be dressed up or can be kept very casual. Outdoor weddings are very intimate and beautiful, therefore your dress should say the same thing. This dress is more casual because it's short, but perfect for an outdoor setting. It's simple yet elegant and would go with any decor. Although pictured here with a bouquet, this would be a dress to match a one stem lily or orchid. Not only are both these flowers heat resistant, but also go well when paired with bouquets.
A nice thing about an outdoor wedding is that you can save on flowers because of nature's gift of natural beauty. Depending on the location, you can use the natural sunlight and landscaping to add to your decor. Choosing decorative lighting in your tent will also enhance the ambiance. If you go with a simple dress, you have more room to play up your lighting and decor.

Fall Centerpieces

OK so answer this question honestly... how many times have you wanted to put together a centerpiece but had no idea what to make or where to start? If you're anything like me, you keep telling yourself that you'll do it next year, or when the kids are older, or when you have more time. Well honey, the time is now! With a few simple steps, you can make your own Fall centerpieces that you can use year after year.

The pumpkin centerpiece can be made in any color (although the picture shows only blues and purples). Pumpkins usually come in either orange or white, so picking the candle colors may depend on your color choice for pumpkins. The first step is to break off the stem and take a small cookie cutter, pounding it down into the pumpkin with a mallet. Carve out the plug by cutting around it with a paring knife. Insert a votive or tall taper candle, wedging these into place if necessary and securing with museum wax. Paring the candle colors with the table linens, or beads inside the candle holder, is a nice added final touch. If you really wanted to get fancy you could put sashes on each chair, alternating designs or colors.

Halloween Party Planning Tips

Are you trying to plan the best Halloween party and don't know where to start? If you want your party to be talked about for weeks and weeks after it's over, then just follow these simple tips for a spook-tacular event!

1. Send out your invitations 2 weeks in advance. Be sure to specify any theme, costumes, etc to avoid any confusion.

2. Have adult supervision (if need be).

3. Have a camera ready. This way you can take pictures and put them in a photo album; especially if you have an annual bash each year. It's funny to see how costumes evolve over time. Another idea is to give a disposable camera to each guest as they arrive.

4. Have a backup plan. If you're planning on an outdoor party, make sure you're fully covered with a large tent and siding. Give us a call and we can help with any questions. There are also companies that sell indoor heaters (if you live in Indiana and can't depend on the weather)!

5. Supply food and treats. Get in the spirit and dress up your food to resemble gross or scary things like eye balls, fingers, and other body parts.

6. Hand out party favors. If you had a costume contest, make sure you follow through with some sort of gift. Passing out candy can be fun and super easy!

Lastly, have fun and enjoy the Holiday. It only comes around once a year...

Pumpkin Pie-sicles

Did someone say Pumpkin Pie?! This yummy treat is perfect for a Halloween party or Thanksgiving gathering. Eating the same sweets year after year can get really boring, so why not spice it up a bit. Kids love popsicles; you can't go wrong with this treat. They are super easy to make and oh so delicious! Made out of butternut squash, these ice pops taste just like the classic Thanksgiving pumpkin pie. Even better... you only need the following 4 ingredients:

2 1/2 lbs. butternut squash
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
2/3 cup light cream
3/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice

To make a batch, cut the butternut squash into quarters and scoop out the seeds. Then boil, bake, or microwave the squash until soft. Let it cool before scooping it's flesh into a medium-size bowl. Add the pure maple syrup, light cream, and pumpkin spice to the bowl. Use a potato masher to mush the squash and blend all ingredients. Spoon the mixture into ice pop molds (should be able to fill aout 10), add sticks, and freeze for at least 6 hours before serving.

That's it! Trust us, if we can do it, so can you! Feel free to post a comment and let us know how they turn out. ENJOY!

Inexpensive Invitations

Making your own invitations may seem a bit daunting at first, but getting your creative juices flowing can be a lot of fun! Whether you're making Christmas cards, Holiday invitations, or simple 'Thank you' cards, you'll be surprised when the final product turns out to be more than you ever expected. Just have faith in yourself. You can do this! There are many ways to get ideas for embellishments to add to the invitations. Take a look around on the internet or go to your local gift shop to get ideas that would be easy to imitate. The next step once you have the jewels, beads, stickers, etc. is to let your imagination run wild and start glueing! Using pre-cut paper will also help make the process easier and allow for the invitations to look the same. The best part about making your own invitations is the freedom to write your own poems, catchy phrases, and wording! Keep in mind, the season or theme of your party will help guide you in the decorations you choose. Matching the embellishments with your linens and tablecloths will make everything come together in the end! And remember: if you get stuck or can't think of a design, no one will know since it's your own personal invitation. Have fun with it!

Spring Weddings

I love these two cute simple ideas that can be easily added to any spring wedding.
Bird cages filled with candles hang easily in surrounding tress adding a romantic feeling to an outdoor ceremony or reception.
Old coffee cans filed with dirt and your favorite spring flowers, finished with a matching ribbon help decorate an 8' table where plates are stacked for guests to pickup at a buffet style meal.
Little touches add a lot to the overall design of any event.

Super Bowl

Super Easy Ideas for Super Bowl

It’s time for the super bowl and we know you’ll need some great decorations and football party invitations for your gathering this year. Even if you aren’t a football fan, you’ll still be watching for the commercials! All you need is a little team spirit and your super bowl party will be a hit. We’ve put together some great decorating ideas to get your party ready for the championship.

Football Pinata
This is great particularly if you have little ones! You can fill it with small team trinkets or candy. It’s the perfect thing for before, after or during the game. Visit your local craft or candy store to find one.

Themed Plates and Napkins
Super Bowl XLIV Plates and NFL football shaped napkins. You can also purchase team themed tableware to complete your party spread.

Mylar and Helium Filled Balloons
Balloons are perfect for filling up the room and takeaways for the kids when the big game is over. Fill up enough to cover the ceiling and make sure they have long enough strings to reach them! Choose balloons in your favorite team’s colors.

Party Banners
Create a banner to hang for guests to see as they arrive. Decorate it with your favorite team’s colors and logos.

Football Cut-outs
Get the kids involved with this one. Get brown construction paper and create templates of all small, medium and large footballs. Trace and cut out the foot balls from the brown paper. Decorate with team logos and football related words (ex: touchdown, field goal, Super Bowl XLIV etc.) Hang them from the ceiling over the buffet table or scatter on them on the table. You can even hang them on windows and walls.
